IBPS Clerk Score normalization
IBPS will calculate the scores of the candidates using normalization procedure to declare the IBPS Clerk result. The normalization of scores will be done using equi-percentile method.
What is normalization of score?
The process of equating the scores on the basis difficulty level of question set is called normalization of scores. IBPS Clerk exam is held in multiple sessions and each shift has a different question paper. Therefore, it impossible to maintain the same difficulty level for every shift. IBPS due to this variation equate the scores obtained by the candidates. Normalization of scores is done only if the exam is held in different shifts. After normalization, final scores are rounded off to two digits after two decimal point.
Explanation of Equi-percentile method:
For example, there are 20 candidates appearing in the IBPS Clerk exam in the first shift which had easier set of questions. Suppose, the top scorer is Amit who has scored 45 out of 50 and a percentile of 100%.
The percentile rank will be calculated:
(Total number of students) (Candidates rank/total number of students -1) x 100.
For instance, in the second shift 24 students had appeared in the exam whose question paper was difficult. In this shift, Raj has scored highest marks with 25 out of 50. Then, both easier and difficult shifts percentile rank will be generated. Selection of candidates will be done on the basis of the percentile rank.
IBPS Clerk Merit List 2021
IBPS will prepare the merit list for provisional allotment after normalization of scores.
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their rank in the merit list as per category and preferences of banks/posts.
As per IBPS, Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category, selected in the same manner as general category candidates will be treated as own merit candidates.
Own Merit Candidates of reserved category will be adjusted against the vacancies of unreserved category and will be given provisional allotment treating them as reserved candidates as per their preference of Participating Organisations. Such a candidate will not be adjusted against a reserved post.
In the event of two or more candidates having obtained the same score, merit will be decided as per date of birth i. e the candidates elder in age will be placed before the younger one.
