JEE Main 2023 Counselling: Seat Allotment Procedure
Let’s have a closer look on each step of JEE Main 2023 counselling and seat allotment process:
Step 1: Online Registration
Online registration for JEE counselling is mandatory for all the qualified candidates. They will have to register themselves in the official website with the same roll number and password of JEE Main Examination.
Step 2: Listing and choosing of the proffered Colleges
After the successful registration, candidates will have to choose their preferences of the institutes as per their convenient.
Step 3: Allotment of available Seat and Ranking
The seats will be allotted to candidates on the basis of the merit rank, choice of colleges and availability of seats. As per the schedule of JoSAA, there will be mock allotment of seats in first two rounds. This procedure will give the clear idea to candidates about the process of seat allotment and they will also be able to understand and choose better preferences wisely in the remaining main rounds.
Step 4: Acceptance of Seat and Fee payment
Candidates will have to choose any one of the following 4 options given after the allotment of seat:
1.Freeze
Candidates will choose this option if they are satisfied with the seat they have allotted and don’t have wish to take part in further round of process.
2.Float
Candidates will choose this option if they want to upgrade their seat with option of keeping their seat in further round of process.
3.Slide
Candidates will choose this option if they want to upgrade the course in the same college in further round of process.
4.Withdraw
Candidates will choose this option if they have already accepted the seat. They can withdraw the seat by reporting at the institute allotted before the last round of seat allotment by choosing this option.
Seat Allotment Fee Payment
Candidates who got admission will have to pay seat allotment fee via online payment mode of SBI Net Banking/ e-Challan. The fee structure is given below for general and reserved category:

Step 5: Documents Verification Process
The list of documents that will be verified by the candidates at the help centers are given below:
- 3 Latest passport size photos of the candidate (same as uploaded during registration)
- Photo- Identity Card
- Provisional seat allotment letter
- Seat acceptance and fee payment proof
- Admit Card of JEE Main 2023
- Proof of Date of birth (Preferably Matriculation certificate)
- Score Card sheet of JEE Main 2023
- Mark list of Class XII
- Category certificate (as applicable)
Step 6: Reporting to the Allotted Institute
Candidates will have to report at the institute allotted after all verified documents. They will have to pay the balance fees at the time of reporting at the institute.

Scope of JEE Main counselling procedure
JEE Main 2023 Counselling and Seat Allotment procedure conducted for different category of candidates in different institutes. The scope of this procedure is stated below:
IITs and IIIT Institutes
The scope is PAN India – It is open for all candidates across India.
NIT Institutes
- Home State candidates: Reservation of 50% only for candidates with same state code of eligibility as that of the institute.
- Other State candidates: Reservation of 50% for candidates of other states.
GFTI Institutes
- Some renowned institutes like BIT, Ranchi, Mesra and IIEST Shibpur: Candidates from home state and other state can opt to these institutes.
- Assam University: PAN India applications
- For other GFTIs: Only Indian candidates can choose those institutions.
The cut-off list of eligible candidates in JEE Main 2023 exam to be declared on April 30, 2023. The category-wise result declared is given below:

The scheduled JEE Advance 2023 exam will be conducted on July 3, 2023. The scheduled result declaration of the exam will be on July 10, 2023.
